Sandra came for a workshop to make us aware of the importance of oral hygiene and healthy food. With her, we have learned how important it is to properly brush our teeth after every meal and at least twice a day. We also played a game to learn how to choose between the food which is good for health and help us to grow and to have energy to learn well at school such as bread, vegetables, fruits and the « bad »food, which is not good for our body ushc as sugar, but we can still eat a little from time to time. We saw that we have caries that should be treated by a dentist. We made a small notebook to record every time we brush our teeth. We also did a cooking workshop during which we learned how to make candies from natural fruit and chopped nuts. Sandra, thank you for sharing these beautiful moments!
We also met our future teacher. His name is Erwan from France. He came to read us an African story and gave us the book. We’ll see you next year. Erwan, see you soon!
Before returning to Belgium, Seppe, a Belgian volunteer, came to teach us how to make purses with bottles of milk. It was a bit hard to do but with the help of the eldest, we managed ! We were all very proud of our accomplishments. Seppe thank you and goodbye!

Over the last years the Petit-Prince school grew from a class with only five pupils to a school of with three classes based in two different places in Bethlehem. Friday the 17th of December was the last Friday in school of 2010 and all the children of the school presented the things they learned over the last years to their families in the Frères-school.

Wednesday is our day at the swimming pool. The day of the week that we really love!
We all leave together for the Dar-Al-Kalimi center with our swimming clothes, our towels, our
sandwiches for an hour of fun in the pool.
We jump quickly in our swimming clothes, we take a little shower, we can’t forget to put our
armbands on and hop, we jump into the water. Correction: we don’t jump straight into the water, we
first sit on the side of the pool to dip our feet, make our arms wet, our bellies and after that we can
jump into the water.
The biggest children never hesitate, the little children are a little more careful. But very soon they
feel secure by the presence of Oifa, Marie, François and Elen. They forget their fears and go into the
water with on the side the surveillance of the lifeguard.
We laugh a lot, splash and play with the water: time goes to fast when we play together and feel very
happy.
Little by little the pool becomes more and more calm, the changing room gets filled with children
who are tied up in their big towels. We put our cloths on a quickly as possible to not get cold and to
sit comfortably in the hallway to start eating some little snacks.
Sometimes we even fall asleep because we lost so much energy in the pool. Maybe we dream then that tomorrow is already another Wednesday in the pool!

Thursday the 21th of October 2010, we went to Beit Sahour with Seppe to pick up olives. We put a blanket on the ground to gather them together. When you pick the olives you can’t destroy the leaves on the tree so you gave to be careful. We gathered more than 1000 olives. We counted them by putting them in little packages of ten. We looked at the stem of the olive tree very carefully :it’s very rough. On the other side is the stem of the fig tree is very smooth. We made prints of the stems with paper and crayons and also with clay. We picked up different leafs from the trees to make a her-barium and we let them dry in a newspaper. We gave the owner of the olive trees our harvest and the drawings that we made to thank him. We also loved a lot to play « wolf » in the garden.
At school we washed the olives, then we put them in bowls with water, salt and lemon. In four months time we will be able to eat them!

Hup ! Here we go again for a new school year in the school Le Petit Prince in Bethlehem! The children grow fast and the school is growing too : now it is also a primary school with three classes.

Since long, the little elves of the school le “Petit Prince” have not given you any news … Well it is because we were very busy and we have not seen the time passed!
We were back to school last September in a new loving school, full of warm colors and for some of us it was the big jump into the French language! Wow! We are always learning new words, new games, new songs but also what was a major news this year is that we are going to the swimming pool every Tuesday!!! Yes yes, it’s true … At the beginning, it was a little difficult but now we look forward to Tuesday to be able to splash and swim some more. Also new: we have a music teacher who comes to school every Thursday. With Mourad, we learn songs (in French, Arabic and English) but also we learn how to vary the tone of our voices and how to follow the rhythm pace using new instruments. It is really fun! In addition to all these activities, we have the greatest chance to learn English with Nicola on Thursday and we have Arabic classes with Miss Nawal on Friday.
Our knowledge does not cease to grow. We also have the opportunity to cook for fun or for special occasions such as birthdays, parties … So, the little elves of the Petit Prince have become chief cooks and apprentices who know how to make yogurt cakes, chocolate cakes, cookies, cake of the kings, chocolates and many other things. They are eager to learn new recipes to share with you!
We participated to extra-curricular activities such as the Game Festival where we could discover new games and play with other children or we sometimes go to exhibits (photos, paintings …).
We almost forgot to tell you that we have our school mascot: it is the Pimpin rabbit. Yes we have a rabbit that we can bring home during the weekend end. That way it can travel a bit and see new faces. You cannot imagine how greedy is our mascot as it has grown so well since last September! It is therefore part of the school and be even involved in the party for the egg hunt that we do at the end of the month to mark the feast of Easter. Don’t worry, we will tell you all that soon as well as about our three day tour to Hebron which is scheduled for next month and the one of Tiberias in the month of June.
We have more friends than last year (because the school continues to expand) but we look forward to having even more news, so we can share with you some of our adventures!

I have been the English teacher of the Petit Prince School since November 2009.
I teach the older children on Thursday, and have a small group of pupils in my class. We have fun in our lessons and the children enjoy playing ‘alphabet bingo’ and ‘matching pairs’ which helps them recognise and pronounce the letters in English.
The children love to show me they can count in English and we play bingo most weeks-they love to win!
We have just moved on to learn different animals in English-which involved us making animal sounds!
We have music lessons and I have helped the children learn ‘Jingle Bells’ in English, which they sang with great effort at the Christmas show!
Lunch time is another opportunity to get the children to learn the word for the food they are eating in English.
Although I don’t speak arabic and only a little French we are able to communicate well. I very much enjoy arriving on Thursday mornings to shouts of ‘Hello Nicola’.
