Newsletter number 6

“Long time we have not given some news …

It is because we were busy! What a change since last year!

But the best news we can tell you is that our school now has 10 children. Indeed, last year we were  very small with only one class for all but this year the school welcomes children from 2 to 5 years and a half, or all levels of preschool (very small section included). This new class of very small section is particularly interesting because as you know we do not practice French at home, we speak Arabic with our parents also to start very early we will facilitate future learning.

And then, our learning conditions are idyllic: few children per classroom, school equipment that has nothing to envy to France, a books library of  French but also bilingual, new equipment that allows us to produce courses of balance absolutely hectic. But what is crucial this year is that we have a new teacher now working with Frederick. Her name is Roxanne, and deals mainly toddlers and small, but of course we also make many activities together.

for the most among us, it  is our second year courses in French and we are able to understand all the instructions of Frederick. But what is new is that we are now pleased to express ourselves in French. We use the full extent of our knowledge to describe our weekend, inventing short stories, making small jokes … In short, the French is not simply a language of the school, it has really become a language of communication and the difference is huge.

For the smallest among us., it is our beginnings in French. Thus, with our teacher Roxane, we sing, we play, we paint, we do sports, and all this is so interesting that gently, a little more each day, we tap the French vocabulary, support all our activities. Of course, at first it was a little difficult to get used to school and especially to this unknown language. But Mary (childminder) has always been there for us to console us when we are lost and to talk a few words in the Arabic language . And after only 3 months of class, we can  repeat, name, describe what surrounds us in this language that we do ours.

Our parents are themselves very surprised and full of curiosity when we flaunt our new knowledge at home. So much that some of them expressed the desire to learn this new language!

The school is certainly nice, but even more valuable is when we go out and learn things from experience. Also in recent months,  we proceeded to pick olives. This is a highlight, and one old tradition here in Palestine. So we put the hands-on and heart to work to actively participate in this event .. But what it to be done with these olives? Such a question could not remain unanswered so we visited the factory that can produce this valuable olive oil, the gold of Palestine.

We also made a trip and a picnic to the Monastery of Crémissan overlooking Bethlehem. A priest  presented us the area covered by vineyards and olive groves, then it was up to the game! It’s still much more valuable to play hide and seek in nature thrives.

Now it’s nearly Christmas and we look forward to this moment … Oh the noise! Sorry we have top go, maybe Mr. Santa Claus is ahead, we need to go  without further delay!

A bientôt!
