Volunteers’ words

The best way to spend my 2009 summer!

My 3-month internship at EJE was definitely the best way to spend my summer in 2009!

It’s hard to put into words how this time has been valuable in so many aspects.

Through my task of conducting an evaluation on the children’s well-being I met many different kinds of people. Children, animators, teachers, social worker, UN representatives, parents, local and international volunteers and not to forget the taxi drivers… the list is far too long! Many of these encounters became unique moments giving insight into the real Palestine and its hospitality that I’ll never forget. Very helpful was the continuous support by EJE’s team, doing a great job to make you a part of it in a trice. This happened through all kind of work-related assistance as well as growing friendships off the job.

All in all, it has been a striking experience to work in this context, to live with the people and to feel the actual heartbeat of a region that regularly covers the headlines of newspapers all around the globe!

A experience which had allowed me to develop my skills

Being a student at the Free University of Brussels, I had to complete an internship to validate my degree. I would like to thank the whole team of EJE for welcoming me. Through them I had the chance to discover for 6 months this beautiful country with a history that is more than painful

During my stay, I had the opportunity to tackle different tasks that allowed me to broaden my skills, and so my professional horizon. Despite some difficult moments and doubts, the team has remained united to move forward. I will particularly remember the organization of the play festival in late October 2009, at the square of the Nativity in Bethlehem, in which each put some personal effort to make it a successful event.

Thank you to all the children, animators and managers of the play and animation centers, and more generally to all Palestinians for their great hospitality, which enabled me to better understand their daily lives and their struggle for their rights.

Hoping to come back here very soon, I wish a lot of courage to all those who have “shaped”me , and allowed me to grow up a little more, here in Palestine.

A wonderful adventure

The activity and team EJE have made my stay in Palestine, one of the most rewarding  and happy experience of my life.
EJE is one of the few Palestinian NGOs that establishes  “accountability” as a master principle and maintains a sound financial ethics. To work in  EJE to work in the
current political and societal Palestinian context is very rewarding. EJE maintains the principle of discipline and rectitude that one feels how necessary it is, and generally the key to any future Palestinian state.
Jacques Neno has surrounded himself with a
dynamic team , open, welcoming to the extreme and funny. All of them  have become dear friends in no time. All the members of  EJE have made a real effort to welcome us,  and to help us to better understand in-depth  Palestinian culture. It help us to adapt very quickly, well beyond what that required a period of 5 weeks. Jacques  demonstrated great flexibility in relation to our own project and our expectations and allowed me to invest myself in the finalization of a photo exhibition at  Al Arroub refugee Camp which for me was a great adventure .

EJE and its employees gave me the opportunity to make wonderful encounters and have moments of great emotion, feeling always accompanied. Its environment and its very mission- to give Palestinian children a childhood- held the promise of daily
,  magical and unforgettable unique moments. They made my departure from Palestine heartbreaking, but at the same time gave another meaningful dimension  for  this coming year in France.
I intend to stay in close contact with EJE, and want to return to Bethlehem as soon as possible, Inshallah!

Some unforgettable memories

My two-month experience within EJE was very rich in learning and emotions.

With the mission entrusted to me, I had the chance to learn in different areas. Through the creation  of a newsletter and a welcome booklet for volunteers, I could invest myself in the communication work of the association.

With the establishment of a summer camp for a week which had hosted more than hundred  Palestinian refugee children, I also have acquired many skills required for any project manager, while remaining at the heart of the action, accompanying children from the different play and education centers supported by EJE. So many great moments of fun and sharing with the children which made my head full of wonderful memories!

Finally, I want to say a big thank you to all team members who develop the association with respect, sense of  listening and good humor  that made my internship an unforgettable experience !
