The activity centre at Shu’fat was created in 2004 and serves children from 5 to 14 years of age.
Established in 1965, Shu’fat refugee camp is the only camp in the West Bank to be within the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem. Therefore, these refugees possess a Jerusalem identity card which guarantees the right of residence in Jerusalem and gives access to different Israeli social services such as health insurance.
The activity centre’s aim is to enable children to thrive in a comforting environment that is conducive to child development through socio-cultural activities such as dance, painting and sports. It is hoped that through these activities the child develops an ability to learn to live in a community and to be aware of his basic rights, including the right to play.
125 children are registered at the centre and the average daily attendance is 110 children.
