General Presentation
The EJE activity centres are play areas where great attention is given to the quality of play of the child. This attention is part of a comprehensive approach towards the child and simultaneously considers their physical, psychological and social well-being. The centres’ therefore have a preventive and therapeutic informal function. The centres’ promote psychomotor, cognitive, emotional and socialization development. The centres’ mitigate problems and contribute to the positive development of children in pain. The activity centre invites children through play, and counting on the support of the animator, to build their own strategy to face adversity and give meaning to their existence.
Since 2010, EJE is seeking for new funds for direct support to start working with new centers. the centers that EJE has supported in the past are still included in the EJE network but are not directly funded by EJE.
Method of intervention from EJE
EJE operates at the opening and during the development of the play and animation centers in refugee camps in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Our aim being the empowerment of these centers by a gradual withdrawal of our NGO, each play and animation center is created with our help as an independent local structure, with a board of directors, a director and animators.
When creating a center, EJE furnished the management facilities provided by the local community and provide all the necessary equipments for the centers (furniture, games, books, etc..). We also pay the salaries of some of the employees (directors and animators) and set up a training throughout the year that combines theory with practice . Finally, we propose to all centers many cross-curricular activities like cultural performances (theater, puppets, clowns, etc..) Entertaining workshops, or sports.
Psychosocial care is provided in each center by EJE, which helps identify children with severe difficulties, and direct them to appropriate structures.
